This past Thursday I hit the 33 week mark of this pregnancy. I have a c-section scheduled at 39 weeks. Which means, as of today I have 5 1/2 weeks to prepare for this baby.
Even though I’ve been through this 4 times before, I’ve never given birth so close to Christmas and this is adding a lot of extra stress to my third trimester.
Also, since my youngest child was born, the protocols for women over 40 during the last trimester have changed. This time around instead of visiting the doctor every 2 weeks, then every week for the last month, I need to have non-stress tests twice a week from now until delivery. If you’ve never had a non-stress test, I can tell you they are not quick appointments! This is reeking havoc on my schedule and increasing my stress levels.
So I’m doing 3 things to get through these last 5 1/2 weeks.
- Making a list and checking it twice. I’ve made a master list (which I’ll share tomorrow) of all the things I need to do before Christmas and before the baby arrives. Before I had children I wasn’t a list maker, now I can’t live without them!
- Simplifying Christmas. Check out this post where I shared how I’m doing this.
- Trying to get extra sleep. I usually stay up later than I should to get work done while the house is quiet, but I’ve recognized that when I cut my sleep short, I also cut my temper short. I’m trying to get to bed by 9:30 or 10:00 so that I feel more rested in the morning and so that I can handle the day without losing my cool.
My biggest fear is that I’ll go into labor before (or on!) Christmas and I won’t be prepared for the holiday or the baby. My plan is to implement the 3 strategies above, so that if I do have the baby early it won’t be such a big deal.
If you have any tips for me, I’d love to hear them! If you know anyone expecting a baby in the next 5 – 7 weeks, please share this post with them if you think they would benefit from it.
